Ben Brown
Lobbying since: 2023
I have a passion for the creation of legislation and how it affects Washington State workers, their families, and our communities, and would like the opportunity to learn more about the legislative process, as well as be involved in bettering the lives of workers.
My passion for this has led me to become more involved with grassroots organizing around the Tacoma and Olympia areas, as well as being the president and primary organizer of the University of Washington – Tacoma’s (UWT) Progressive Student Union (PSU). With the PSU I have led protesting and strike solidarity organizing, as well as hosting speaking events for other social justice advocates. These efforts have caught the attention of professors at UWT who have provided me with other opportunities to become more involved in labor and social justice projects, including the Building a Movement internship and the Labor Solidarity Project.
I believe my best qualities are my ability to make connections with the community, learning new skills in a fast-paced environment, and my proficiency with various application-based programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word. Ways that I have been able to make connections within the Tacoma community have been working with grassroots organizations such as La Resistencia and Tacoma for All through helping to advertise their initiatives on the UWT campus. I will also be helping with Olympia’s own tenants’ rights initiative, Olympia for All. Through the military I have developed skills in tracking high value equipment via Excel, as well as a strong attention to detail, leadership, and communication skills.
