Carolyn Brotherton grew up in southern Virginia, studied at Yale University and received her PhD in Chemistry from Harvard University in 2015. Carolyn helped form and lead the union for the University of Washington’s 1100 Postdoctoral employees, UW Postdocs United/ UAW Local 4121. Carolyn organized across UW’s campuses, coordinated the Postdocs’ historic union election, and strategized direct actions to demand the UW respect its workers’ democratic rights. Carolyn has been a member of the union’s bargaining committee, and as such she has crafted and bargained over proposals that will make up the UW Postdocs’ first collective bargaining agreement
