Previously she worked as an attorney at Columbia Legal Services, where she worked on removing systemic barriers for children and youth who were homeless, low-income, at-risk, or in foster care. She is a former recipient of an Equal Justice Works two-year fellowship awarded to lawyers who develop new, innovative projects that provide legal services to low-income and underserved populations.
Katara holds a B.A. in Women’s Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City, Master’s in Social Work from the University of Washington Seattle, and a law degree from the University of Washington School of Law.
