Lobbying since: 2015
Eric Gonzalez Alfaro joined the ACLU of Washington as Legislative Director in Jan. 2019. From 2016 to 2019, Eric served as Legislative and Policy Director for the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, an organization representing over 450,000 rank and file union members from over 600 affiliates and Central Labor Councils, where he led on workers’ rights issues, in and out of the jobsite, including health care, education, civil rights, immigrant rights, voting justice, strategies to end mass incarceration, and anti-poverty policies. Prior to WSLC, AFL-CIO, Eric served as staff lobbyist for Washington’s largest immigrant and refugee rights organization, OneAmerica. There he worked to help close the education opportunity gap, protect voting rights, and defend vulnerable working families from the deregulation of predatory payday lending in Washington state. Prior to OneAmerica, Eric served as the director of the Equal Justice Coalition, a non-partisan grassroots organization working to increase federal, state, and local funding for the network of civil legal aid programs in Washington.
