Jennifer Calkins joined WELC as a Diehl Fellow in 2021. She grew up near the ocean in San Diego, California and has a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution from UCSD, a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Antioch University L.A., a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from UC Irvine and a J.D. from University of Washington (UW). For over a decade she taught evolution and ecology at UW and The Evergreen State College. She also conducted research into the behavior, evolution and conservation of birds, particularly new world quail. During that time she published numerous articles and essays focused on wildlife in the United States and Mexico. From 2018 to 2020 she clerked at the Washington State Court of Appeals Division 1 for the Honorable J. Robert Leach.

This lobbyist certified completion of required code of conduct training on 02/19/2021.
